Online Therapy

Jo's uses a relational and mentalization based approach in short to medium therapies.
What is online therapy?
Therapy space is usually created between two people in the same location. With online therapy the therapeutic relationship is developed in the virtual space between the therapist and the person seeking help. As an attachment therapist Jo believes the relationship is the key aspect for change, and online this relationship is built up carefully.
After beginning to understand your history in the initial couple of sessions and talking about what you would like to achieve, you and I will negotiate how you would like to go forward.
Online therapy can be a short term experience to resolve a specific problem. The problem may be grief or sadness, needing an understanding person to express natural feelings with. The problem could be not knowing what decision to make regarding a life transition and needing a safe space to articulate what you really feel. Online therapy can be used for assistance in any psychological domain of need including help for physical pain and disease management.
Some people use online therapy for longer term self development, such as resolving patterns of coping which are no longer helpful and may be holding you back. These patterns may lie in your relationships with your children, your partner, friends or work place activity. These painful and contradictory patterns may influence your mood and general well-being. You may be looking to change some patterns of responding to the world around you. Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) is a 16 session short term mentalization therapy for mild to moderate anxiety and depression. This can be done very effectively in an on line environment.
If you have suicidal intentions or thoughts, or take part in any self harming behaviours, online therapy cannot be done safely. If your problems fall into this category you will need a prior General Practitioner or Psychiatrist to support you if you want me to contribute in your care.
